Net Zero will have an impact to every business by 2030, let us help.

Net zero refers to balancing the amount of greenhouse gases produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. In the UK, the government has set specific targets of reaching 68% net zero emissions by 2030 and aims to reduce overall emissions by 100% by 2050. This involves drastically cutting carbon emissions across various sectors and utilising methods like renewable energy and carbon capture to offset any remaining emissions.

What does that mean for my business?

New government legislation means all businesses will be impacted by net zero in some way.  If you’re a larger business this might be through regulations like:

    • The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)
    • Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)

If you don’t meet the criteria for these reports yet, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be prepared as the catchment criteria is changing at regular intervals to bring more businesses into this mandatory reporting.

Alternatively, your business might be part of a supply chain for a larger organisation who must measure the emissions of their supply chain, potentially putting your contracts at risk if you can’t report on your carbon footprint.

What if I can’t see this data?

You can’t measure what you can’t see, therefore leaving your organisation blind when it comes to energy consumption data or carbon reporting.

Without data your business is unable to make effective decisions on reducing costs, reducing waste or renewing energy contracts.

This is where our EMS system bridges the gap, allowing you to report on real time data and help drive your business to NetZero targets.

How to embrace change?

Once your EMS system is in place you can now start the journey of creating a consumption reduction strategy, which in turn will reduce your carbon footprint.

We can help you assess factors like:

    • Human behaviours – are your staff being energy efficient
    • Operational hours – is your organisation consuming energy at the right times
    • Business critical equipment – are there pieces of equipment that are no longer energy efficient
    • Automation/Controls – what can you implement or automate to ensure reduced consumption.

By putting in place simple measures we can aim to reduce your business consumption from 10% upwards.

What about renewable energy?

We would always recommend understanding your consumption first before considering something like a solar project.

The reason for this is you need to understand your baseline consumption first, otherwise you could potentially be putting in place a solution that’s not fit for purpose.

For example, if you were to implement EMS and find 30% of consumption savings then you would need 30% less solar on your roof to meet your NetZero target.

However, once you have established your baseline consumption, solar should be the next project you consider. Pulse can work with you on a capex free model, providing renewable energy directly into your business at a much lower cost than standard consumption.

What about any standard consumption left over?

Unfortunately, not every business can implement enough solar equipment to match their full business consumption.  So, for businesses looking to become carbon neutral they can offset their remaining carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits.

Alternatively, Pulse can introduce a 100% green energy contract into your business for any remaining consumption.

Let us help you reach NetZero by 2030.
